Animal welfare and meat quality: An essential combination

Thu 15 May | 11:00 - 12:00

Language: Simultaneus translation

It remains a challenge to reconcile the societal and moral demand for high animal welfare (AW) with other pillars of sustainable livestock production: 82% of Europeans think farm animals should be better protected than they are now.

During all stages of production (on farm, loading & transport, unloading & slaughter) it is possible to improve animal welfare in a cost-effective and objective way for the entire meat production chain.

Ambitious and impactful, yet practical and efficient solutions are needed. Measuring is knowing, so objective measurements are the key for moving the sector to take goal-oriented actions for improving AW.

Meat quality improves significantly with the implementation of best practices in animal welfare.
