Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are influenced by numerous modifiable behavioural risk factors, including diet as one of the principal factors that can affect the progression and severity of many of these diseases. This session will discuss innovative food solutions for patients suffering from NCDs, including the development of nutritional supplements designed for cancer patients targeting specific sensory parameters, the development and evaluation of new approaches for the prevention and treatment of nutritional complications after bariatric surgery, and the investigation of polyphenol compounds in the mitigation of the progression of aging and Alzheimer´s disease. Furthermore, an examination of the ancestral traits of the human gut microbiome from Neanderthal populations will be presented to yield insights into the ancient gut microbiome structure and interactions with the host.
